Life Lately: A Week at Home

Hey there!  As I mentioned two Monday's ago, I spent some time back home, and at my brother's.  I had planned on staying at my parents for a few days, and then ended up just staying all of last week.  I am fortunate to be able to work from anywhere with an internet connection these days, so I figured, why not?

During my week at home...

I was able to enjoy some morning runs in the crisp fall air.  And appreciate the flatness of my hometown.  I never quite realized how hilly my neighborhood was until I started running again!

I enjoyed yummy meals with my parents.  I love to cook myself, but there is nothing like my mom's cooking when at home.  Especially when she made some of my favorites!

I took a few bike rides up and down the bike path.  I haven't had a bike since I moved to Missouri, and being back home last week has me thinking it might be a good purchase!

I took the day off on Tuesday, and went with my mom to visit my grandma.  We checked out a local antique mall, hit up Pottery Barn, and had hot dogs from Portillo's.  It was the best!

I worked a little extra earlier in the week to be able to take a few hours on Friday to do some more antiquing with my parents.  We were all set to go to a store out of town, when we drove by a local shop and saw exactly what I was looking for right out front.  And not only did I find what I was looking for, I found a few things I wasn't looking for, too!  And for such good prices.  It's been awhile since I had done any antiquing, so getting in some was so nice!

I also got to get in some quality time with my parents' cat, Camille.  She was quite the little coworker last week.  I miss seeing her little face poking out from under the monitor.  Although I haven't had to say 'no' a million times since being home, haha.  She tended to think that all the cords were toys.  I honestly don't want a pet of my own right now, but growing up with one or two cats in the house, I do miss it and always try to soak it up when back home.

Overall, it was really nice to be home for a stretch of time.  Usually my visits are kept to the weekend, and often times very go, go, go, so having some time to relax and spend time with my parents outside of work hours was really nice.

While the week had some highs it had some lows, too.  We found out that a family member passed away, another has some health issues, and another had a COVID scare (test came back negative, thank goodness!).  I was so glad to have already been home when all this happened, because among other things, it's a reminder that life is short and you need to soak in all the time you can get with your loved ones.

  1. Oh my goodness, what is that brown rack with all the slots that you found?! I LOVE it!! I looked high and low at our thrift stores for something like that to display my oils but I couldn't find anything. What was that originally used for, do you know? I'm glad you got to have the entire week with your family... I'm sure they loved every second of having you. And I haven't ridden a bike in probably 10 years... I should give it a whirl sometime! B and I have two perfectly good bikes hanging in the garage and we haven't used them in ages.
