Winter Wardrobe Staples

I am sure I have said this multiple times before, but dressing for fall and winter are my favorite.  I love the colors, the materials, the shoes, and just the comfy-ness (is that a word?) of it all.

Here of late I feel like I have a winter 'uniform' of sorts.  It involves an oversized sweater, leggings, and booties.

My favorite sweaters right now are Free People.  I have two of the turtleneck tunics (currently 40% off), and then I also got a crew neck tunic (currently 40% off) earlier this year.  I just really love the quality of the pieces, and the material - not itchy at all!  Free People often runs big, and I find that to be the case with these sweaters, so I size down one, and still find them big enough to wear with leggings.  Free People is pricey, but you can often find them on sale at Macy's or Nordstrom (as they are now), and if buying from Macy's you can always use Rakuten, too, which is a little bit of extra cash back.

For leggings, I have three that I keep in rotation.  First, my Lululemon Align leggings.  I thought there was no way that they could be worth the money, but I was wrong.  So very wrong.  They are my absolute favorite pair of leggings I have.  They are buttery soft and ridiculously comfortable.

If I want to add a little pizzazz to my look, I pull out my faux leather Spanx leggings.  I purchased these during the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale, and like the Align leggings, these lived up to the hype, too.  I do suggest sizing up one size, and also if you are 5'3" or shorter, going with petite.

Another Anniversary Sale Purchase were a pair of Zella leggings.  I had the dupe pair from Amazon, but I started noticing how badly they attracted lint and I felt like even with using a lint roller they never looked great.  So I decided to grab a pair of the Zella brand when they were on sale to give them a try.  I can see why everyone raves about them!  If you want a good, thicker legging with a little bit of compression, I would suggest these.

I become pretty brand loyal when I find a good pair of shoes, and  Blondo is one of those brands.  They are cute, and practical - all the booties I have seen are waterproof!  I have both a pair of brown booties (similar) and gray booties (currently 33% off) and am constantly reaching for them.

I still am a fan of UGGs.  I have had most of my pairs since college, but they are just so comfy and are perfect to pull on for running errands, or having a casual get together with friends.  The ones I reach for the most are my gray short boots.

If the weather is iffy, or gross, my Hunter rain boots always get worn.  I think I say this every time I mention them, but at first, I thought they were such a frivolous purchase.  I am going on 6 years of having them, though, and they have been worn so much more than I thought.  Plus they look as good as new, too!

Towards the end of winter last year, I picked up a pair of Sorel snow boots.  My old pair of snow boots had bit the dust, and with all the snow St. Louis now seems to get, a good, new pair was needed.  They were recommended by a friend, and I really like them, too.  Not just because they do the job in the snow, but I also think they are super cute, too!

My go to outfit isn't exactly work appropriate, so on casual Fridays, my outfits are a bit different.  In the winter I will still wear a sweater (it's always so darn cold in the office), or a nice top (usually from LOFT), but pair it with jeans, and either my Blondo booties, or my very favorite Calvin Klein heels.

Jeans-wise, Wit & Wisdom are my favorites.  I have both the bootcut, and the skinny jeans.  I also recently discovered their sister brand, Democracy, which is available at Nordstrom Rack.  You get the same comfort as Wit & Wisdom, at a lower price point.  I can tell a little bit of a difference in quality, though.  But since they are less, it makes sense.  You can also use Rakuten when shopping at Nordstrom Rack, which is a nice little benefit, although there is a minimum to get free shipping.  So there are pros and cons to which brand you buy.

I have shared about these Calvin Klein heels over and over again, but they are some of the best heels I have ever found.  They have a clean, classic look, and I usually find them to be comfortable right from the first wear.  I know heels might not be the first shoe you pull out in the winter, but if it's super, super cold, I will just wear my UGG boots to the car, and change into my heels once at work.

Two other items that I have been loving this winter are my North Face Parka, and my Kendra Scott hoop earrings.

The parka is super flattering.  It really caught my eye because it looked a little more sleek, without having all the quilts of a puffer jacket. It has somewhat of a cinched waist, and the length is really good, too.  With North Face I always go up one size, and this jacket was no different.  There are some good color options - I have the navy!

I was on the lookout for a pair of simple silver hoops that were a bit chunky.  I was having a hard time finding exactly what I was looking for (that didn't drag my earlobes down), until I found these.  I like the fact that these have a back on them, as opposed to clipping into the hoop like many others.  I feel like this keeps your earlobe from looking stretched.  They are considered 'feather weight', which I wouldn't say they are as light as a feather, but they definitely are not heavy.  There is a fun little jewel at the end of the hoop, which you don't really see, but it's still a fun little design.  I just feel like they are the perfect earring.  And while I am putting these in this post as a winter staple, they will be worn year round!
