February Goals & Habits

January was a pretty good month in terms of accomplishing goals and implementing new habits, and I am excited to take that momentum into this month!

Here's a look at how things went in January.

1.  Clean out coat closet.  This didn't get done, but the closet itself is still pretty darn clean so it doesn't bother me all that much.  Hoping to get this done soon, though!

2.  Organize extra kitchen items.  Check!  I picked up a little wire shelving unit from Target during their storage sale, and it is the perfect size for some of my larger kitchen appliances, and extra items.

3.  Clean out cookbooks.  Check!  I am still a cookbook hoarder, but I did go through them.  While I only got rid of one (or rather put it in the garage sale pile), I would say that is progress!

4.  Clean out glove box.  Check!  There actually wasn't as much garbage as I thought there would be - it more just needed to be organized.

1.  End the night with a clean kitchen.  I feel like I am really making progress on this one.  Now are there still some times that it's a bit of a mess and I just say I'll get it tomorrow and go to bed?  Yes.  But overall, I have been much better about ending the evening with a clean kitchen.

2.  Make lunch the night before.  Another item I have made good progress on!  I find it works best for me to do this right when I get home from work, or as I am cooking dinner.

3.  Wash makeup brushes twice a month.  I would say this one has become a habit.  While it might not be exactly twice a month, it is at least once, and that is a huge improvement from before.  It's become part of my routine a few Sundays a month.  I say Sunday, because I find it works best for me to clean my brushes right after I apply my makeup for church.  This way I am not trying to squeeze it in during the week before work, yet it's still done earlier in the morning to allow for them to dry all day before I need to use them again.

4.  Meal plan & make grocery list by Saturday afternoon.  Maybe one of these days I will get this done...

Before I get to February, I wanted to share a little tidbit about forming habits.  I was reading an article sent to me by my personal trainer, and it mentioned that it takes 68 days to form a habit.  For whatever reason, I thought it was only 21 days.  I think that came from doing the 21 Day Fix through Beachbody. (Maybe I am not remember right, but I thought it was part of the program - 21 days is the amount of time need to make a habit, hence the reason you workout 21 days straight.)  Anyways, having read that now, it makes way more sense to me that it takes 68 days.  Seems much more realistic and more attainable to know that these things take a bit longer, so it's ok if they don't happen within a month.

Ok, now onto February.

1.  Clean out sweaters.  I know that I don't wear all the sweaters I own.  There is no reason for them to take up space in the drawer if they won't get worn!

2.  Clean out bathroom closet.  Last year I did a big bathroom closet clean out.  I got rid of a bunch of things, and organized everything in a much more functional fashion.  It's really been such a game changer, and while it still is working for me really well, it could use a little refresh.  I am sure there are a few products in there that can get pitched, and I know the containers I use to corral everything could use a good cleaning.

3.  Freezer clean out.  My freezer has gotten a bit out of control.  I want to go through and clean out any of the old stuff from the freezer, give it a good wipe down, and then focus my meal planning around dishes that use what I already have.

4.  Walk at the gym 1 time per week.  As of now, February is looking to be a relatively slow month during the week.  I want to make sure to get to the gym (at least) one night a week to walk on the treadmill.  I'm  not looking to do a big workout since I usually do a workout most mornings, but in keeping with my resolutions, I want to make sure I move more, and this is one way to help with that.  Not to mention, I find it to be a great way to unwind from the work day, too.

1.  Daily devotional.  During the work week, I am so good about reading my devotional each morning.  It's part of my routine.  That and writing in my gratitude journal.  On the weekends, though?  Not so much.  In the past, I would just skip over those missed days come Monday morning, but this year I started playing catch up Monday morning.  While that does work, I would like to move towards doing it every day, even on the weekends.

2.  End the night with a clean kitchen.

3.  Make lunch the night before.

4.  Meal plan (realistically) & make grocery list by Saturday afternoon.  I also want to expand on this habit, adding 'realistically' to my meal plan.  I have a tendency to want to make all these new, and sometimes involved recipes.  I love to cook, I love food, and I love trying new things.  But the reality is, sometimes after work I don't always want to make those more involved recipes, or attempt something new with the knowledge it may not turn out quite right.  Going forward, I want to make sure to incorporate some of those easy peasy, go-to recipes in there, like breaded pork chops, hamburgers, spaghetti, chili, tacos, etc.

We're already a week plus into the month - time to get going!
