Sausage Bread

Ahhhh, sausage bread.  I meant to share this long ago (this picture is from TWO Christmas's ago!), but it somehow slipped my mind.  I have no idea how because it is such a good, and easy recipe!

This is the perfect recipe to go with soups, salads, or just eat by itself.  It's a nice alternative to a traditional sandwich.  And another good thing is that it keeps very well.  You can freeze what you don't plan on eating, then just reheat as needed.  I got this recipe from my mom (of course) and she also mentioned how it would be perfect for a party.  All in all, it cannot be beat!

Sausage Bread
1 box Pillsbury "Hot Roll" Mix (found in the baking aisle)
1 lb Italian Sausage, lightly browned
8 oz Mozzarella, shredded
Oregano
1 cup Hot Water
Olive Oil
Cooking Spray

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees.  Mix flour and yeast (provided in the box) with hot water.  Do not rise.  Roll dough out on a floured surface to the size of a large pizza.  Top with sausage, cheese and oregano to taste.  Spread toppings around evenly, leaving a little bit of an edge all around.  Starting from the bottom, roll the closed, pinching the edges to seal.  Spray your baking sheet with cooking spray, then place the sausage bread on there in a large cresent shape.  Brush the top of the roll with your olive oil.  Bake at 350 degrees for 30-40 minutes.  Remove from the oven and let sit for a minute or two.  Cut into slices.  Enjoy!

This recipe says that as a main dish, this serves 4-6, and as more of a party dish it serves 6-8 people.

Side note - as I was writing this post on Sunday, I text my mom with a question about the recipe.  She responded back, and then said that she had made it that day AND my brother was making it as well, to take to a Super Bowl party.  How funny is that?!  We definitely were on the same wavelength.  And you can tell that this recipe is a family favorite!
