Day in the Life: 10.9.17

Hey all - happy Tuesday!  I would normally be sharing my September book review for the Show Us Your Books link up, but I could not pass up the Show & Tell Tuesday topic for today - A Day in the Life.  This is one of my very favorite posts to read on blogs, and I think it's fun to participate, too.  The only difficult thing is to actually remember to document the day!  I had one from September, but kind of petered off at the end of the day, so I ended up documenting my day yesterday.  So, without further ado...

My alarm goes off at 4:30.  I am definitely a morning person and tend to be most productive at home at this time, hence the early wake up time.  I almost forgot that I wanted to document this day, which is why the photo below is a few minutes late.

I started my morning off with a devotional and the Bible.  One tip I actually got from a previous Show & Tell Tuesday post (Favorite Apps) was using The Bible app in conjunction with a devotional.  I forget who mentioned it, but it was one of those light bulb moments, because it's so easy and handy to use when you are looking for a specific passage or verse.  Eliminates all the flipping I would have to do in the actual book.  One of my New Year's Resolutions was to read the Bible...I have to say that is probably not going to be accomplished, considering I am still in May!  I got way off track (obviously) and have struggled to catch up and I just don't think it's going to happen this late in the game.

After my reading, I did a quick work out.  I used to do the 21 Day Fix DVDs, but I just was not seeing the results I wanted, and honestly, I wanted something a little quicker.  Just last week I finally looked up Blogilates on YouTube and did one of her work outs.  I liked it and was super sore following, so I think I am going to continue to try them out.  There are a ton to chose from and the one I did this day in particular was only about 15 minutes.

Then it's time for breakfast.  I used to bring breakfast with me to eat at work, but I switched it up awhile ago and this actually has worked really well for me.  Lately I have been stuck on scrambled eggs with spinach and Everything but the Bagel seasoning, paired with a banana.  I feel like this gives me a bit of everything - protein, greens and fruit.  While I ate, I read some blogs.  Usually my cut off time for this is 6:00.  That's when I shut down my computer, pick up a bit, do my breakfast dishes (and anything from the previous night), get my lunch ready - really any small chore I can fit in before I need to get ready for work.  Sometimes I am a little overzealous and try to do too much and am rushing a bit to get ready for work, but, like I said, I am a morning person and would much rather get things done at this time, then leave them for after work.

My work day starts at 7:30 and goes until 4:00.  I (luckily) didn't hit any red lights on the way to work so I wasn't able to snap a picture on my drive in.  I had a project to work on today that was a little slow going because it was Monday and the project itself was a bit tedious tedious.  My lunch break consisted of watching Mallory Ervin YouTube videos (specifically her fitness video - I find them so motivating!) and a little blog work.  I headed out of work at 4:00, stopping by the library to return a book before going home.

Monday is always sheets day for me, so I threw those in the washer when I got home, then changed for the gym.  I spent a few minutes scrolling though instastories before I actually head to the gym.  This allows me to relax a bit before heading off.

At the gym, I walked at an incline for 30 minutes, then did 10 minutes on the stairstepper.  I have been switching that off with the elliptical, and it seems to be a good mix for me.  It's hard so I always dread the gym on these days, but am happy once it's done!

After the gym, I stopped by Target to pick a few things up.  I am always hopeful when I walk in there that our dollar spot will have been restocked a bit, but it never is.

Dinner tonight is a new recipe - garlic and brown sugar pork loin.  I got that ready, along with some potatoes and showered while it all was cooking.  I putzed around a bit, and worked on this post until it was ready to eat.  Unfortunately I overcook the pork a bit, but it isn't terrible.  I love watching TV and Madame Secretary came back this weekend, so I was excited to watch that show.  Also on deck yesterday was The Big Bang Theory.  CNN was the channel on after I watched those shows on DVR, and Andy Cohen was on Anderson Cooper's show - pretty darn funny if you ask me!  I am now wishing that I had gotten tickets for AC squared when they were in St. Louis awhile ago.

I was pretty tired after that, so I washed up and logged back on to finish this blog post.  Then it was time to read a little to decompress and bed before 10!

Don't forget to check back tomorrow for my September book review and then coming up on Thursday is another edition of Girl Chat.  This month we are sharing our favorite Halloween costume we ever wore!

Linking up with AndreaLindsay and Whitney.

  1. I can't believe how early your day starts, I am struggling at 630 haha. You are so productive throughout the day! We watch madame secretary too, I can't wait to watch our DVR this week of it!

  2. I agree, early mornings are the best! I have been doing 21 Day Fix videos off and on for a while. I like then, but will be checking out Blogilates for something new. Thanks for the suggestion. Go Cubs!

  3. I would rather get everything done in the morning, too, than have it waiting for me when I get home from work. Sometimes I'll do 1-2 loads of laundry depending on how early I get up. I'm so impressed with your morning schedule!!! Do you ever watch Alex and Michael?

  4. I'm definitely a morning person too, I don't wake up quite as early as you but I like to be productive and get things done before I head to work. I find I can enjoy my evenings much more that way! And Everything But The Bagel Seasoning is my JAM right now!!!

  5. We have a lot in common! I wake up at 4am as well, unless I snooze until 4:30am. I'm a morning person too. Too much on my mind and my brain gets moving before my body even does. I go to the gym at 4:30 to knock it out though. AND I'm reading the One Year Bible too! It hasn't always been easy to keep up but I've managed to double up on some days to keep myself in line. Your day sounds pretty nice, especially with the Target run. That's always a treat!

  6. LOVE these posts! And I know I've said it before, but I'll say it again... I don't know HOW you wake up so early!! Girl, I'm exhausted even thinking about it. I would love to get my butt up 30 min earlier, but I just can't bring myself to do it.

  7. I enjoyed your post! Followed over from the Show and Tell linkup... you packed a lot in your day. I'm also a morning person - if I didn't have to go to work, after breakfast I'd keep on chugging along. Drives my hubby nuts.

  8. I love these posts and getting to know everyone more. I have been doing the incline walk too and it helps change things up in my workouts.

  9. I soo wish I could be more of a morning person- you can get so much more done when you get up early! I used to really love the blogilates workouts- I loved how they were on the shorter side, but I was always super sore! Great job sticking with reading through the Bible-- I feel like once you get behind it can be easy to just give up.

  10. I like the caption "Apartment Friendly". I live in the middle of the building, so I have neighbors above and below me. I felt like the Tae Bo workouts were a little too loud for my neighbors below me. I'm always so conscious of how loud I'm being. I wake up at 5:45, but I struggle to get myself out of that bed. I like to pretend I'm going to get up in the mornings and go to the gym, but that's just not realistic and it saddens me lol. I always get a second wind in the evenings and stay up later than I should.

  12. Your day sounds pretty similar to mine! I am not a morning person, but I have to be at work at 6:45, so I force myself to get up.

  15. I love how much you get done in a day!! I keep telling myself my goal is to get up at 4:30 but I'm just not a morning and 5:30 is even pushing it, but I KNOW I would be happier if I did, I just need to do it!

  16. My life would be soooo much easier if I could convince myself to be a morning person! My husband gets up at 4 and honestly if we both got up at the same time and went to bed at the same time the house would run smoother.
