Weekend Recap: Labor Day

Thank goodness for the long weekend!

The weekend started off one of my favorite ways - with a movie.  We saw Logan Lucky, which is about a Nascar heist.  It was definitely interesting and good, but the ending did leave us with a few unanswered questions.  It was similar to the Oceans movies with the heist - you see it one way and then you see it from the different perspective, which I wasn't expecting, although if I had read a little bit about the movie, it would have made more sense at the time, considering one of the directors (or one of the producers?) did Oceans 11.  Oh, and I did get my first pumpkin spice latte of the season!!!  So yummy!

I procrastinated and ended up doing my cleaning before my mom came on Saturday morning.  Bad move, as my vacuum decided to break.  Thank goodness for dads and FaceTime, because I was able to call my dad and after talking him through everything, he was able to tell me that my vacuum belt was broke.  While it wasn't the best start to my morning, it got lots better when my mom made it in.  We got to work decorating pretty shortly after she arrived.  While I loved my fall decor last year (post here), I feel like we switched things up a bit and I really like how it turned out.  I added some new items, too, although I was a bit disappointed at what stores had.  Target was completely picked over, Michaels was too, although not quite as bad, and World Market didn't have hardly anything out yet.  We had great luck at Pottery Barn, though, and on a whim stopped in Kirklands, and found the cutest tray.  I had never been to Kirklands before, but I definitely am keeping it in mind for future decor purchases.  We got everything decorated, and made a list of a few things we still needed and decided to hunt for those the next day after church.  After dinner I set up my new Keurig.  It was kind of a funny story how this came to me - my brother and sister in law's broke recently and my mom found a super good deal on one from QVC, so she ordered it for them.  Well, my sister in law's dad had already gotten them a new one, so lucky for me I got the one my mom purchased!  I am super excited about it and can't wait to try out drinks, not to mention use to make hot chocolate in addition to coffee and tea!  Next, I attempted to tackle my vacuum repair.  It was a bit of a disaster.  I went to three stores (mind you this was at like 9:15 at night) and could not find the right belt.  So I had my vacuum all apart with no new part to fix it.  To say I was frustrated was a bit of an understatement.  Guess I should have looked online before heading out, but I had no idea it was that difficult to find a specific belt!  We watched a little TV before calling it a night - it was a long day!

I really wanted my mom to come with me to church on Sunday.  I had missed the past few weekends due to traveling, so I was looking forward to attending this week.  She was totally up for it, so we got in a nice walk in the morning, had some breakfast and headed to church.  It was a great service and then it was back out shopping.  We had a bit of a snafu to start, as the store I REALLY was looking forward to going to was closed for Labor Day.  They didn't have any notice on their webpage / Facebook page, or even on the door, but was mentioned in the message.  Note to self - always call before heading to this particular place!  We checked out Home Goods and we both made a few purchases there, before heading back to Pottery Barn for these adorable pumpkin bowls (the link is for the set of four, but in stores you can buy them individually).  Almost everything I purchased at PB was on sale this weekend, so I feel like I got some really good deals on some classic items!  After a late lunch, we got things organized and cleaned up before replanting my summer flower pots with some fall items.  It was so easy - post on that to come!  We had to get my mom some gas before her trip back on Monday, so we headed out and made a stop at Trader Joe's, too, which I just think is always so fun.  I got my hands on the Everything but the Bagel seasoning I have been seeing everywhere, as well as a super cheap ($4) wine, which the cashier said was super good.  We also picked up a healthier guac, which was delicious and paired it with the Flaxseed chips.  They just have the neatest stuff!  We kind of petered out after dinner, so we watched a Hallmark movie and read a bit before calling it a night.

The next day started with another walk, this time on a new to me trail.  It was fun checking out a place that I drive by all the time, but have never stopped.  It's basically just a pathway on top of a levee and it's pretty convenient, too, with a little parking lot.  I thought it was pretty busy too for early morning, with bikers, runner and dog walkers.  My mom made a delicious breakfast (tomato, spinach, turkey bacon, and cheddar cheese omelets with fruit and banana muffins) before heading out.  I took it easy the rest of the morning, doing dishes, a little laundry and enjoying lots of HGTV.  It's the first time I had seen the Flip or Flop Vegas show, and I really liked the couple - definitely have to be on the look out for more of those episodes!  I am writing this Monday, late morning, so right now, the rest of my day looks to consist of more laundry and a movie.  Hopefully it's a restful afternoon / evening before gearing up for another, albeit, short work week!

I hope you all had a great long weekend!  Also, a quick reminder - tomorrow is the start of the Fall Favorites link up!  We will be sharing our favorite fall drinks.  I sure hope you will join!

Linking up with Lindsay and Whitney.

  1. So sorry about your vacuum, but I'm laughing because I am so not a handy person. I can't even imagine trying to take it apart and fix it. I love a keurig, I had one before we got married but Patrick drinks so much coffee it wasn't practical to have one now. One day we will go back! Glad you had such a good weekend!!

  6. Those PB pumpkin bowls are SO CUTE. Oh my goodness I love them. I'm so excited for you that you got a Keurig! I keep telling B that I might have to end up getting one. I have always loved coffee since I was a little girl, but I've never owned a coffee maker because B won't touch it and I rarely drink it at home anyway. I've been wanting coffee more and more lately, but there's no point in brewing a whole pot for just one cup, so a Keurig it's going to have to be!

  10. Kirklands is the best! You'll have to pop back in around Thanksgiving and pick up some new Christmas decorations - I always have to have supervision in that store or I'll end up leaving with a car full of things each time haha :)
