Weekend Recap: Pontiac & Grandma's Birthday!

I am back today with my weekend recap!

Friday was a relatively busy day at work...more so towards the end of the day, of course.  I had some books to pick up at the library (and return) so I made a quick stop there after work.  I absolutely love the library and it makes me so happy to see how busy it is, pretty much at all times!  Dinner was some drinks and apps at one of my local favorites, Bishop's Post.  Most recently, I have been obsessed with their sliders.  SO GOOD!  The rest of the night was spent watching TV and reading.

I was up early on Saturday since I was lazy the night before and didn't pack for my weekend trip to my parents.  Thankfully it didn't take me too long to pull together and after getting ready, I was on my way!  The drive was relatively uneventful, except for a slight detour I had to make...another one off the interstate!  If you remember to last week, we were detoured off the interstate and it added a whole hour to the trip.  Luckily it was early enough this time that there weren't too many people on the road and I was back on the interstate in 15-20 minutes.  The reason I went home was for my grandma's birthday lunch on Sunday, so Saturday there were no real set plans, which turned out to be so nice!  Normally when I come home it's for a specific reason and we are go, go, go all the time.  This time it was much more leisurely - my mom helped me wrap a package, we walked up to the post office to mail it off, we dropped off some clothes at the cosignment shop and did a little shopping (of course).  While I am trying to do a no spend month, I did end up purchasing some LipSense.  So far I really like it, but will share my thoughts after using it for a bit longer.  My sister in law absolutely loves my mom's Italian beef recipe, and I honestly couldn't tell you the last time we had it.  I asked my mom for the recipe last week and then she suggested we make it while I was home, so we did that after lunch - it's one of those great make ahead meals.  I cannot wait to share the recipe with you all!  After pulling together the Italian beef, mom and I sat outside and read magazines.  My stack just gets larger and larger so it was nice to make a dent in them and to enjoy the outside!  The rest of the day included a bike ride, wrapping my grandma's presents and a yummy dinner.

Sunday morning my mom and I headed out for a walk and then we all got ready to head up north to my grandma's.  We visited a bit before my aunt and cousin came and then my grandma opened her presents.  She loved every one of them - we were all saying how my mom needs to turn it into a business, because she always comes up with such clever ideas!  We met up with a few others for lunch at Clara's.  It seems like a bit of a tradition to go there for my grandma's birthday and since I hadn't been up for her birthday in a few years, I was beyond excited to eat there again!  My very favorite thing is the bruschetta, although you really can't go wrong with anything.  And the bread - oh my goodness.  This was all before the main meal, too!  I had a little bit of the lasagna, a meatball and meat sauce.  While the picture isn't super pretty. let me tell you, it was all delicious.  We headed back home from the restaurant - both my dad and I did a little napping on the drive home.  Since dad was sleeping (and we had that huge lunch), dinner was popcorn.  My parents make the best popcorn!

Thunder and lightening woke me up relatively early on Monday.  I was lucky enough not to run into any rain on the way home, though.  Once back, it was back to the grind - laundry, grocery shopping and meal prepping.  And blogging!

It was such a great trip home - very relaxing and fun at the same time, which is the best!

  5. It sounds like such a fun weekend with your family and celebrating your grandma's birthday. We had a detour this weekend that made us get back on the highway and it was basically stopped traffic so it ended up adding on soo much time, when we were like 5 minutes away before the detour-- so sad! haha. I can't wait to hear your thoughts on lipsense and that recipe sounds delicious!

  8. Yay! So glad that you are giving LipSense a try! I'm still loving mine! I wear it almost every day! It's so wonderful that you got to go home for your grandmother's birthday. Once they start getting up there in age every birthday should be extra special. I know she was thankful to have you around.

  9. Leisurely trips home are the best!! I usually end up trying to pack in so much fun that we need to relax after our weekends away. It's a treat when you can go and rest while seeing people you love.
