Weekend Recap

Happy Tuesday!  I hope everyone had a fabulous Memorial Day weekend.

Since I had Friday off, my weekend started Thursday after work.  One of my favorite ways to start off the weekend is a movie.  We saw Captain America - Civil War and oh my goodness, was it good!  I thoroughly enjoyed it, and while it is a little longer, about 2.5 hours, it flew by.

Friday, I headed to my parents, then the next day we all went to my brother's for a few days.  It was so much fun!  I soaked up the time with everyone, especially my sweet little nephew, Jackson.  He is such a doll and it is so fun to see how much he has grown.  My dad and brother headed to the 100th Indianapolis 500 on Sunday, while the girls stayed back with Jack.  We were able to watch the race on TV in the Indianapolis area, since it was sold out.  I have never actually watched a race like that before, but it was super fun.  Knowing my dad and brother were there, as well as learning little tidbits from my sister-in-law (who has been quite a few times), made it very interesting.  Definitely a great weekend filled with lots of family time.

I ended my weekend the same way I started it, with another movie, The Nice Guys.  Let me tell you, this was an excellent movie!  I laughed throughout the entire movie - it just didn't stop.  The chemistry among the cast was great, and let's be honest, Ryan Gosling does no wrong.  It was just a really, really great movie.

Friday Favorites 5.27.16

Happy Friday!  Anyone else ready for the long weekend?!

As I mentioned earlier this week, I am taking today off so my holiday weekend is extra long.  It's always nice to have a little extra time away from work, especially when that time is going to be spent hanging out with family!  Definitely a top favorite this week!

Another favorite - covered parking at work.  The company I work for has two parking garages for employee use.  It's super handy when the weather is bad.  Yesterday we had some crazy storm in the morning, complete with a little bit of hail.  While I didn't quite make it out the door in time to miss the start of the storm, my car was safely tucked inside for the rest of the day.  I don't have covered parking at my apartment, so it is nice that I know my car is at least safe while I am at work!

The one good thing about the rain is the opportunity to wear my Hunter rain boots.  I bought these a few years ago, and honestly, I thought they were going to a be super impractical purchase that I would hardly ever wear.  I was so wrong!  Obviously, they aren't something to wear everyday, but I am pleasantly surprised with the amount of use I have gotten out of them.  I even wore them into work on Thursday, changing into my other shoes once I got inside, but they definitely saved me from wet shoes, feet and legs on the way to my car.

Working TVs at the gym.  About a week ago, the TVs on the individual machines at the gym were out of commission.  Luckily they were back on this week.  Having something to watch and zone in on makes working out so much easier for me!

Rooster Crawl!  In my weekend recap on Monday, I mentioned volunteering at  Provident's After School Circus this past weekend.  Provident has another event coming up, the Rooster Crawl (a bar crawl), which is put on by the group I am involved in.  We just started our ticket sales this week!  This is our first year for the bar crawl and we are super excited!  Our hope is to have this become an annual event to raise money and awareness for Provident.  While I know everyone is spread across the country, if you know of anyone in the St. Louis area that would be interested, please feel free to send them the link!

I hope everyone has a fabulous holiday weekend!

Confessions 5.26.16

I was so excited to find another confessions link up after Jess shut hers down (with good reason!).  These are my confessions...

I confess...my post was a hot mess yesterday.  Tuesday night I was writing it and getting everything scheduled to go when my internet decided not to work properly.  It showed that I was connected, but basically wouldn't save anything.  My formatting was all messed up and every time I tried to fix it, it wouldn't work.  I was hoping Wednesday morning it would magically be better, but the internet was as slow as molasses and I pretty much was able to do like one thing before I got too frustrated.  Luckily I fixed it when I got to work, but even then I had a bit of trouble.  Sometimes I think blogger has a mind of its own.  Please tell me I am not the only one with these issues!

I confess...yesterday I spilled water all over myself first thing in the morning.  It looked like I peed my pants!  So embarrassing.  Luckily it was a pretty slow morning so I was able to wait until the spots dried before I needed to get up from my desk.  Thank goodness.

I confess...I feel like my weekend looks are getting a bit frumpy.  I have been so focused on work clothes lately that I feel like my more casual clothes are lacking.  This is probably something all in my head, because let's be honest, I have a closet full of clothes, but last weekend I was just struggling.  I wear the same things over and over again, and while I love those pieces, sometimes I just want to switch it up.  May be time for a little "fun" shopping?!

I confess...my meal planning for this week went down the drain.  I had plans to try two new recipes this week and it doesn't look like they will get made until next week.  Lunch plans changed, so what was for lunch turned into dinner and then getting sick also threw a wrench in my plans.  I am kind of bummed about this, because I was really excited to try something new and get back to cooking.

I confess...I have a stack of books to read at home, yet no desire to start on them.  Does anyone else go through reading phases?

I confess...I watch way too much reality TV.  Lately I have been on a Teen Mom 2 kick because I had a bunch of episodes to catch up on.  I am so sad to hear that Kail and Javi are getting a divorce!

What are your confessions?

What's Up Wednesday 5.25.16

Happy Wednesday!  I am linking up with my usual Wednesday girls - Jessi and Jenn for What's Hap-pinning Wednesday and Shay for What's Up Wednesday.

What I'm eating this week...cereal and salads.  This is the same answer as a month ago.  I also got some popsicles for my sore throat and they have been amazing.  Not only do they taste good, but they still have the ridiculously cheesy jokes on the sticks, which always make me smile.

What I'm reminiscing about...thinking back to last May when I took a girls trip to Scottsdale.  Days by the pool with some yummy drinks sound amazing right now.

What I'm loving...leaving work on time!  AND the long weekend coming up!

What I've been up to...things are slowly getting back to normal with work which is super nice.  I have been enjoying it!

What I'm dreading...the weather forecast...rain, rain, rain.  My apartment building is being painted, so I had to haul all my patio furniture inside.  I don't have a ton out there, but it still makes things a bit more cramped inside.  The more it rains, the less work they will be able to get done and the longer my apartment is going to be a mess with all these extra items inside.  Not to mention, no one likes days and days of rain!

What I'm working on...still trying to eat better and get my work outs in.  The weight loss challenge at work is coming to a close soon and it is tough competition!

What I'm excited about...Memorial Day weekend.  I am taking off Friday, too, so it will be an extra long holiday weekend.

What I'm watching...I binge watched Shahs of Sunset on Monday.  That is one of my favorite shows right now and I had 4 episodes to catch up on.  Not sure my thoughts on that surprise wedding - feel like it was a tad bit awkward and could have been planned to go a little smoother.  I love a good wedding though and I am so glad that Reza and Adam are still together after their mishap last year.  I also caught up on Teen Mom 2 this past weekend.  I really enjoyed all the little after shows they have been doing.

What I'm listening to...pretty much anything and everything.  I am constantly flipping through radio stations in the car.

What I'm wearing...I rocked my Fixer Upper inspired STL shirt this weekend and loved it.  It is just so comfortable!

What I'm doing this weekend...hanging with the family!  I am really excited to see everyone.

What I'm looking forward to next month...so much is going on next month.  It's my dad's 60th birthday, one of my cousins is getting married and I have another work trip - this time to San Diego.

What else is new...I think that covers it.  Honestly, as I was typing this, I realized not much has changed since last month!

New York Stock Exchange

Last week, I had the chance to visit the New York Stock Exchange.  Going up to the building, we had to stop at a security tent.  Once we got past that, we made it into the building to the next security checkpoint.  This one was similar to airport security, except you get to keep your shoes on, thankfully.  We then waited for our sponsor.  He walked us up to the main floor and inside the trading room.  It was so neat!  The building is just gorgeous inside, and then there are screens everywhere.  Different TV shows are filmed there regularly, and the one we were right by was Squawk on the Street with Jim Cramer.  It was amazing to me that they just go on with the show while people are just all over the place in the background.  Our sponsor was super nice - he encouraged us to take a lot of pictures, which was awesome.  We made it in time for the opening bell, which was neat.  We found out that those who ring it in the morning are using IPOs, while those who ring the end bell normally are celebrating an anniversary.  Or, if for some reason the original ringers back out or can't make it, they just go with whoever is visiting at the time!  Our visit lasted a little less than an hour, but it was so neat to see the floor.  They also have an area upstairs that has pictures throughout the years, but we didn't make it up there this time.  Next time, hopefully!  Before we headed back to the hotel, we found the bull and took some pictures.  It was such a neat experience, one I hope to repeat if I make it back to New York for work!

Weekend Recap

How is it Monday already?!  It seems like it was just the start of the weekend.

My weekend started off much like last week - work then gym.  I got caught up on a few shows, like Real Housewives of Dallas and Southern Charm, which was nice.

Saturday I had a volunteer event.  I have mentioned before that I am on the Young Professionals Board for Provident, Inc.  Part of the work Provident does includes after school programs.  At the end of the year, Provident hosts a circus for those kids and their families.  My group worked two booths, a water race and tic tac toe.  This was our first time participating, so next year I think we will step up our game, but it was a good effort for our first time.  The circus had a ton of neat things - the people in charge did such a great job.  They had a petting zoo, where I was obsessed with a little calf, pony rides, inflatables, face painting, circus performers, and a dunk tank!  The weather turned out really well, too.  I didn't do much at all the rest of the day.  I had started with a sore throat on Friday and it turned into a sore throat and stuffed up nose by Saturday.

The great weather continued to Sunday, so I made sure to get out for a walk/run.  I also saw Neighbors 2.  It was a little different than I thought it would be, but I still enjoyed it.  The movie actually focused a bit on feminism and empowerment, which was unexpected.  Personally, I thought the first one was better, but this one was still good.

Friday Favorites 5.20.16

Happy, happy Friday!  Let's get to it, shall we?

1.  New York!  I was in New York earlier this week for work.  It was my first and I loved it.  You can check out what we did the first evening here, and then next week I will be sharing a little bit about our trip to the NYSE.

2.  As I mentioned, work brought me to New York.  While we were there we had a big meeting, so the fact that I am back means the meeting is over and hopefully work should get more "normal" for the next few weeks.  Thank goodness!

3.  Again another work favorite, but such has been my life lately.  One of the ladies I was working on the big presentation with called me today.  Just to see how things went.  How nice is that?!  Even though it was like a quick, one minute phone call, I found it very thoughtful.  I definitely look forward to working with her again next year!

4.  I finally picked up a new pair of running shoes.  I needed them pretty badly, but was putting it off.  I found these at Kohl's and love them.  The blue color is so pretty and the pop of pink is so fun - not to mention, they are on sale!

5.  Dinner at home.  I haven't cooked a ton lately, but last night I did and it was just nice.  Nice to eat something I made myself.  I love, love going out to eat, but sometimes you just want a home-cooked meal.

Hope you all have a great weekend!

New York

Que the Alicia Keys song...now you're in New York, these streets will make you feel brand new, big lights will inspire you...

I had this song stuck in my head for the last few days.  On Monday I headed to New York for work.  My flight got in around 3:30 and the rest of the day was free.  One of the guys I work with had the same flight, so after catching up on a few emails, we spent the evening exploring.  We stayed at the Grand Hyatt New York which is right next to Grand Central Terminal.  We walked around there and checked it out, then headed towards Bryant Park.  After walking around there for a bit, we then moved towards Times Square.  We stopped for a street performance, which my co-worker ended up being part of!  One of the performers did a front flip over him and 3 other guys.  It was really funny to watch.  We were both starving, so we stopped at the first place we saw pizza.  It really hit the spot.  One place I had wanted to stop by was Magnolia Bakery.  It worked out well, because my co-worker also was all about that.  I wanted to go because I had read about it on another blog, whereas he wanted to go there because Andy Samberg references Magnolia Bakery in an old SNL skit.  We loaded up on a few sweets, then headed back to Bryant Park to sit and indulge.  The amount of people out and about is just amazing to me.  I really enjoyed just being able to walk around and take in all the sights.  Below are some of the pictures I took from the first day.

What's Hap-pinning Wednesday

I haven't had the chance to cook much lately with being busy at work.  I have been pinning away though, for when things slow down.  Below are a few of the recipes pins that have caught my eye lately.

Buffalo Ranch Chicken Salad

Greek Chicken Kebabs

Garlic Butter Shrimp, Quinoa and Asparagus

Lemony Kale Chickpea Avocado Salad

What have you been making lately?

Book Club: Thirty Days to Thirty

The other day I ordered a bunch of books from Amazon.  I figure I have been working a lot of overtime, I have been compiling a list of books I want to actually purchase a hard copy of, rather than just on my Kindle - I just decided to go ahead and treat myself!

One of the books on the list was Thirty Days to Thirty by Courtney Psak.  I read about this book on Biana's blog.  Considering I am turning 30 next year, I thought it was very fitting.  The premise of the story is that a girl is turning 30 in just over a month and in one day her whole world falls apart.  She realizes that not only is she not becoming a partner in her firm like she had been hoping for, she is being let go all together AND her boyfriend of 6 years is cheating on her...with his secretary.  Talk about double whammy.  She moves back home, finds a list that she wrote when she was 18 of 30 things she wanted to do before she was 30, and proceeds to try to accomplish them in the 30 days she has left before her birthday.

I enjoyed this book a lot.  It was a good story and had a happy ending, which is my favorite.  It's a book about finding yourself, but it doesn't get too deep, which I think is a good thing in this case since I think it is supposed to be more of a fun read.  If I had to say anything bad about this book, it would be that it seems extremely unrealistic to me.  But, I feel like that is why you read these types of books - a little escape from reality.

Reading Thirty Days to Thirty has made me think about making a 30 before 30 list for myself.  I am not quite set on doing it, but still something I am mulling over.  If I do, I will make sure to share.

What about you?  Do you have any type of bucket list?

Weekend Recap

Hey all!  Hope you had a great weekend.  I feel like it flew by!

Friday was pretty uneventful.  It was a longer day at work, but luckily ended on a good note.  We got the big presentation we had been working on sent to the printers so that was definitely a good feeling.  I made it to the gym again on Friday night...I had a good weigh in this past week so I am hoping to keep that up!

I have mentioned a few times that one of my best friends is expecting.  We celebrated Baby C. this weekend with baby shower cook out.  It was a ton of fun.  The shower was held at one of their friend's house and they were definitely the hosts with the most.  I am kicking myself for not taking more pictures because everything was so well done, but I did capture the cute swag used to decorate the fireplace.  The theme was red, white and blue, which is so fitting for the soon-to-be parents.  They always have a huge 4th of July party AND the baby is due right around then, too!  They have a great group of friends and it was so fun hanging out with them and catching up.

Sunday was somewhat of a lazy day, although I did make it to the gym and cleaned up some.  We went to see Money Monster which was really, really good in my opinion.  I would highly recommend going to see this movie.  While I feel like you somewhat knew how it was going to end, I was enthralled by the story and felt as if it really struck a cord with me.

Another Monday is here again.  Let's make this week a great one!

Friday Favorites 5.13.16

Happy Friday!  I have a bunch of random favorites this week.

Morgan Stewart's wedding look.  She looked flawless.  I am obsessed.  Her wedding was this past weekend and you can bet I was checking out the #fitzperfectly on instagram Sunday.  If you aren't familiar with her, she is on Rich Kids of Beverly Hills.  That show is outrageous and so hilarious.

#RichKids of Beverly Hills' Morgan Stewart's wedding

No more mice!  This past weekend I realized I had some little visitors in my apartment.  After my initial freak out, I calmed down enough to contact the apartment office.  They came, put mouse traps down and now the mice are gone...hopefully.  They set a few more traps out and they have stayed empty so far.  Fingers crossed it says that way!  While I love having the trees behind me, but I guess there is a downside, too.  And the fact that my apartment isn't exactly new.  Anyways, the main point is they are gone (hopefully)!

Wednesday night was a late night at the office for me.  I was starving so I checked out the vending machine for some dinner options.  I bought a bag of chips and when they were falling down, they snagged a bag of peanut M&M's that must have gotten stuck for someone else.  I got a two for one!  Such a nice surprise.  While it wasn't the healthiest dinner ever, it kept me going which was what I needed.

Another Wednesday night story.  I have this plant at work that is from my grandpa's funeral - it has been with me since 2012.  This plant has been through it all - 2 buildings, multiple offices/cubes (to attempt to get natural sunlight), no water, over watering...you name it.  The cleaning lady was coming around Wednesday evening and she came over and started talking to me a little bit.  She had a heavy accent, but she basically told me that she was helping me take care of my plant.  She picked off a dead leaf and gave it a little more water while we chatted a bit.  Just really meant a lot that with all the other things she has to do cleaning-wise, she takes the time to help take care of my plant.

I apologize, because this is another work story, but I am seriously so excited about it.  During my upcoming trip work trip to New York, I get to go to the New York Stock Exchange!  My boss set up an appointment with our contact for a little tour.  We even have it timed so that we will be there for the opening bell.

This weekend should be a good one.  A break from work and a baby shower to celebrate my favorite soon-to-be mom.  Hope yours is great!

Work, work, work, work, work.

I was at work super late last night, so a post just was not happening for this morning.  It's another early go at work today, but hopefully more of a normal leave time.  Fingers crossed!

The Sound of Music

This past Saturday I went to see The Sound of Music.  It was SO, SO great!!  The entire evening was just fabulous.

We had originally planned on going to The Block for dinner before the show.  We had gone there previously before another show at The Fox and it worked out really well.  Unfortunately, when we got there, we saw it was closed for a private event.  Luckily, just a few blocks down is another great restaurant, The Scottish Arms.  We had been there for brunch before, but never dinner.  Even though we didn't have a reservation, they thankfully had a table open for us.  We opted for cocktails, a Moscow Mule for me and a Kentucky Mule for him.  While they didn't serve them in the traditional copper mugs, they served them in the cutest glass mugs.  They were delicious!  We went with the Rarebit & Bread for our appetizer, which was really good.  I could have just ate that as a meal!  Our waiter was really awesome, too.  Just a really fun time!

After dinner we headed to the show.  The Fox is just amazing.  Every time I go there, I am just amazed by the beauty of the building.  The show was excellent.  The actresses and actors sang so beautifully.  I would definitely go see it again!
