Day in the Life 6.19.19

Cheers to a Day in the Life post!  These posts are my very favorite to read, and I enjoy looking back on them.  It's neat to see what exactly was going on at that time.

This is actually my 4th time trying to document a day.  I have a few that I started off with in the morning, only to fall off after work.  But third fourth time's a charm!

My day starts off at 4:30.  Because I am so used to it, a lot of times I just pop out of bed and get going.  I have been tired lately, and this week especially so - it was a bit of a struggle to not just snuggle under the covers for a bit longer.  I did get up right away though, put in my contacts, changed into my workout clothes, and headed downstairs.

I grab a glass of water and sit down with my devotional.  After scrolling through instagram for a minute, I actually get to my devotional (definitely should do those in opposite order, but it happens).  I use the Bible app to check out the verses that go with the day's message.  I find the app to be much more convenient than using my actual Bible for this time.

Time to grab my shoes, weights and iPad for my workout.  I am currently using Beachbody on Demand (you can read my thoughts on 3 different at home workout programs here), and started doing the 21 Day Fix Real Time program this week.  I am sore!  Today is upper body, which is probably my least favorite workout, but most needed type of workout - I am not a fan of my arms.

The workout goes about 30 minutes, then it's time for breakfast.  Breakfast for me is usually some combination of a hard boiled egg, fruit, english muffin, toast, banana muffin top, and milk and water.  Today I opted for 2 banana muffin tops and blueberries.  These healthy muffin tops are so delicious!  I have some in the freezer, and then I just pop them in the microwave for about 30-40 seconds.  It gets the chocolate chips a little gooey which makes my breakfast feel so indulgent.

While I eat breakfast, I read blogs, as well as check to make sure my post went live, and do any link ups.  

I was slacking the night before, so I stop this a little early to finish putting my lunch together for work.  I already have chicken and strawberries ready to go, but I needed to grab some carrots and cheese to go with it.  Then I head back upstairs to get ready for work.

I always take a break after I blow dry my hair to make my bed.  It gives me a chance to cool down before doing my makeup and curling my hair.  I have pretty much always made my bed, and I remember my mom telling me what she heard somewhere that it was found people are happier when they make their bed, so it kind of reinforced that habit, too.  I totally get it - even if my room is otherwise a mess, a made bed makes all the difference!

I gather all my bags, then head out the door.  I swear, sometimes it feels like I am moving into work when I leave in the mornings!  

I start work at 7:30, but try to get there a little earlier.  I am one of those people that feels if you are on time, then you're late'.  

I grab a cup of tea mid morning.  The office can be so darn cold, I usually have a cup of tea to try and warm me up.  In the summer I drink either Tazo Wild Sweet Orange, or Celestial Seasoning Peppermint tea.  Or sometimes, if I am craving something warm and cozy, I have some of my all time favorite - Hot Cinnamon Sunset.  I usually save that for the fall and winter, though!

I forgot to take a picture, but I stopped for lunch around 11:30.  Lunch is anywhere between 11:00 and 1:00, but I am usually on the earlier side.  As I mentioned earlier, I had shredded chicken topped with a slice of pepperjack cheese, carrots, and strawberries. 

Around 2:00 I have a granola bar for a snack.  I usually need a pick me up about this time, and although they probably aren't the healthiest option, I do love these granola bars.

One of the people I work with is retiring, and we had a happy hour for him.  He's such a great person and will be sorely missed.  The happy hour was set to go until 7:00, but a few of us stayed until almost 8:00!  Our remaining group used to do happy hours all the time, and it just felt like old times.  

Since I knew it was going to be a later night, I had planned on eating some take out for dinner.  Chipotle for a win!  And an ice cream slice for dessert.  Lately I have been eating strawberries with a bit of whipped cream for dessert, but this night ice cream was in order.

I have started watching Billions on Showtime on Demand, and made it through the 3rd episode while I ate.  I was hooked on this show immediately.  I think it's a good show in general, but the finance aspects really speak to me.

I washed up, finished the blog graphic for the following day's post (Summer Bucket List), and then wrote in my gratitude journal.  This is the second year I have done one, and I didn't do real great keeping up with it last year, and unfortunately it's more of the same this year.  I think I got through March and then petered off, but I really want to get back to it and even though everything inside me wants to wait until next year to start again because I hate having this huge gap, I am telling myself it is fine and just to get back to it.  So tonight was the first night I did that.  Let's hope I can keep it up!

It was lights out shortly after that, around 10:00.  

Kind of funny, I mentioned at the beginning of the post how I have been so tired and have had a hard time popping out of bed like normal.  Well, the next morning (6/20), I was wide awake well before my alarm.  I guess I just needed to write it down for it to change - if only that could work with everything in life!

  1. I too tend to wake before any alarms go off and I am almost always raring to go right from the start (though this past week I have been really tired in the morning and lying in bed an extra half- hour!).

  2. Every time I read these posts I'm always so amazed how early you wake up!! 4:30 is the middle of the night for me! Haha. And yes to hot tea! You got me hooked on that Hot Sunset Cinnamon Tea and I drink it every single morning during the school year. I've been taking a break from it this summer, but I miss it! I might grab a cup today since it's going to be rainy and cozy again later today.

I'm so jealous you got to work out in to start the day. I wish I was more motivated with that. And, I love what you did with those frames behind your bed!
