Summer Bucket List

To be honest, summer is probably my least favorite season.  I think most of that feeling stems from not having a summer break, but also because it's usually just so dang hot and humid.  That being said, I think because of those reasons, I don't really make the most of it.  Which probably makes me not like it even more!

To try and remedy that, I thought I would make a summer bucket list to ensure that I do take advantage of the season and in turn, enjoy it a bit more.

Walks Outside.  After work walks during the week, and early morning walks on the weekend.  While I curse the heat and humidity the majority of the time, there are other times when getting out and breaking a good sweat just feels nice.  Especially after a long day of work in a freezing office.  On the weekends, I like getting in early morning walks.  While that doesn't always beat the heat, it's usually a great way to start off the day.  And it's the perfect opportunity to admire all the pretty flowers people have out in the neighborhood.

Visit the Pool.  I didn't make it to my neighborhood pool last year, but this year I will!

Visit Forest Park.  St. Louis has one of the biggest, most beautiful parks.  I'd love to get a walk or two there this summer, maybe even a picnic if it isn't sweltering outside.

Get Frozen Custard / Ice Cream.  There are two places I want to hit this summer - Ted Drewes and Clementine's.  Ted Drewes is a St. Louis staple, and Clementine's is such a neat little place with delicious ice cream.

Concert in Faust Park.  On Tuesdays, there are free concerts at a local park.  I went to the first one because my church helped to sponsor it and handed out water, but I'd like to go to another as just an attendee.

Attend a Baseball Game.  It's been awhile since I have attended a baseball game.  I love the atmosphere of all live sporting events, and baseball is really the quintessential summer sport!

Visit a Museum.  St. Louis has so many great museums.  I am partial to the History Museum, but there are a ton others.  I'd love to make it to any of them - perfect way to beat the heat, too!

Visit the Botanical Gardens.  I don't know that I have ever visited the Botanical Gardens during the summer!  I can just imagine how lovely the grounds are this time of year.  They offer free admittance to St. Louis City / County residents on Wednesdays and Saturdays before noon.  Definitely have to take advantage of that!

Walk to Starbucks.  There is a Starbucks about a mile away from my place.  It's close enough, yet far enough to help work off that yummy coffee treat!

Make S'mores.  I LOVE S'mores.  So much so, that I perfected making them in the microwave years ago.  Now that I have a grill though, it's time to go back to making them outside.  Although not quite the same as roasting them around a fire, I think they will toast up pretty nicely for a summer treat.

Here's to making it a great summer!

  1. I felt the exact same way when I was working... I wasn't a summer fan at all. Now I love it since I'm able to stay home with the kids, but I still love fall more! Nothing will ever beat my beloved fall!

  2. Summer is my favorite but I completely understand your reasoning! I think it's always a fun idea to have things to look forward to (in any season), so I love your bucket list!

  3. I love your list! I am also trying to get in more walks this summer. I am even in a StepBet right now to make sure I am getting in my steps each day.

  4. Such a fun list! I bet this will definitely help you get out and enjoy summer a little more this year. Have you ever gone berry picking or do you have a farmer's market nearby? We enjoy both of those for Summer.

  5. Smores!!! Yum!!! Even though I'm off during the summer, it's not my favorite because it's unbearably hot!!

  6. I love this list.
