Friday Favorites: A Visitor, Food & Water, Shopping & Walking

Happy Friday!  It's always good to see the weekend, especially one that I have a visitor, which leads me to my first favorite...

1.  My mom is coming to visit!  My mom graciously offered to come down and help me take down Christmas decorations.  So yes, this year I have been 'one of those people' who still has my decorations up.  And while normally I would be itching to get them down, I can't say that still having them up bothered me one bit!  It'll be so nice to have help with this, not the mention, that since her and my dad store my Christmas tree at there house, it will be nice to get that box of my apartment ASAP, instead of waiting til a later visit or trip home.  Not to mention, she can help me sprinkle a bit of winter cheer around the house, and I am also hoping she will help me go through my jewelry.  To say I have an ambitious agenda for us would be an understatement.

2.  Dark Chocolate Dessert Hummus.  On this season of Shark Tank, one of the companies was for dessert hummus.  I love hummus and the idea of chocolate hummus was super intriguing.  I have had this container of Boar's Head Dark Chocolate Hummus in my refrigerator for awhile now, because while it sounds good, it also sounds kind of...gross, honestly.  Hummus and chocolate are not two things I would put together.  Well, it was about to expire, so I finally tried it and holy cow, it tastes just like chocolate!  I think you would liken the texture a little bit to like mouse, or even some type of chocolate spread, but seriously, it is worth a try!  I had some with pretzels which I really enjoyed, but I think it would also be awesome with graham crackers or strawberries.

3.  Peacock Paper & Gifts Essential Planner.  I know I have mentioned this planner a lot lately, but I wanted to touch on a specific aspect of it, that I have really been loving this week.  Kelsey added 'healthy checks' to the planner, one of which is water intake.  I almost always have a glass of water with me, or a bottle, so I thought I did pretty good at drinking water.  Well apparently, I need to think again, because tracking it in my planner as shown me that I need to drink more.  I didn't realize how much I would appreciate having the ability to track water in my planner, but I really love it.  Sometimes it is just the little things!

4.  Lilly Pulitzer After Party Sale.  While it is over now, it was a favorite of mine this week.  I participated in the sale for the first time last year, and got some really good stuff - I feel like I lived in those dresses when the temps were warmer - so I knew I wanted to take part this year.  Again my focus was dresses, and I ended up purchasing five.  It's hard to limit yourself when the deals are so ridiculously good!  I still get confused on if I actually got them, because I think they say you don't know for sure until you get the confirmation that they have been shipped, but maybe it's just when you get the initial confirmation email of your order (Lilly fans, if you know, please tell me - not sure why I get so confused!).  They are all so pretty so I sure hope I get them.

5.  Stair Walking!  I wrote a post last year about ways to stay active at the workplace (in an office setting), and I have been putting one of the tips in particular to good use - getting up around the same time in the afternoon and moving, specifically walking the stairs.  Our building is built kind of crazy, so one stairwell goes down to the first basement level and then all the way up to what I think is the roof door, and the other just goes to the first floor and then the top floor, so I always head over to the longer one to do my stair walking.  It always amazes me how hard they seem, even though I have been doing it regularly since I got back from Christmas.  But, even if I am huffing and puffing by the end, I always feel better when I am done!

Before I end this post, I wanted to ask a quick question.  For those of you that have the Skinnytaste Cookbook (the first one), do you have any must-try recipes?  I know lots of people have it, and I just got it for Christmas, so I am looking for some recommendations.

Have a great weekend!

  9. If I had your decorations I would never want to take them down! I'm not a huge hummus person, but actually looked for that dessert hummus a few months ago when I was at the store but they didn't have it. All of that Lily Pulitzer makes me so happy as it's so cold and dreary lately!

  11. Girl, you are SO lucky to have your mom's help taking down your decor. OMG, I would have loved to have help. B helped clean the house, but he won't touch a decoration. Lol. Well, other than the lights outside that he has to hang with a ladder. ;o)

And dessert hummus?! How did I miss that on Shark Tank? We watch every week and I don't remember that. I'm about to look it up!

  14. I shopped the Lilly sale too, but ended up only getting one piece (a splurgey maxi dress!) but I have that Essie dress you bought in Hey Bay Bay and I love it and wear it all the time in the spring and summer. You won't know that all of your purchases went through until they ship, but I'm crossing my fingers that no one gets cancelations this year because those stink!

  16. I skimmed through the Lilly sale, but I decided there was nothing I really needed, so I'm going to wait until the next one in August. I ordered some pieces during the last sale in August but haven't got to wear them yet because it's not warm here. ha. Can't wait to see what you got!
