Friday Favorites: Blogger Love + Girl Chat Link Up Announcement!

1.  I saw this vanity planet scale on Mallory Ervin's vlog last week.  Mallory credits this as one of the key things that helped her get in shape for her wedding.  And she looked fabulous at her wedding!  The price was WAY too high in my opinion for a scale, but then Sarah text me this week and said it was on sale!  I checked it out, and sure enough, the scale is $49 with Mallory's code, which you can find in her vlog here.  Shipping and taxes added about $10 to my total, but it's still over 50% off.  I do feel like that is still expensive for a scale, not that I really know how much scales run, but the thing with this scale is that it gives you more than just your weight.  It breaks out your water weight, your muscle mass and a few other things, which really help you kind of analyze your weight and progress.  I don't have it in hand yet, but it's on the way and I cannot wait to use it.  I am sure the first weigh in won't be the most pleasant, but I am looking forward to tracking my progress with it!

2.  I saw these chargers on Christina's blog and fell in love.  She was kind enough to tell me where she got them (Pier One) and I have been thinking about them ever since.  I thought changing out chargers would be a relatively easy (and inexpensive) way to refresh my table.  I am loving how they look!

3.  I love reading Natalie's blog, Designer Bags & Dirty Diapers.  Her food posts are always my favorite - everything looks so delicious and is usually healthy.  In addition to food, she also covers other things, like fashion and just life in general.  Her post on Thursday really struck a cord with me, and I wanted to share.  She covers comparison, especially in relation to her divorce, and what she has learned about happiness.  I think it's a great read if you have a few extra minutes to your day.  I also have noticed a few other bloggers giving a little 'behind the scenes' look at things and talking about comparison a lot lately.  For example, Brighton from Brighton the Day, shared on instagram stories how she doesn't really have that thigh gap, but if you arch your back and stick your bottom out, it can give you the look of one.  Krista from Covering the Bases, also did some instagram stories showing 'this is what I look in real life' and 'this how I would differently pose if I was taking pictures and going to post' type thing.  Ashley from Fancy Ashley, also posted on this subject, too, which you can read here.  And I know a bunch of other bloggers have touched on this at one time or another, these were just the very recent ones I have read.  All in all, it's just a reminder that everything you see on social media and sometimes on blogs are just the highlight reels.  I feel like people say that all the time, but sometimes you need to keep telling yourself it and be reminded that hey, you don't know what it took to get that sweet family picture (bribery, a million pictures), or the hard work that went into being able to afford that lovely house and all those pretty furnishings (and all the 'junk' that was probably removed and is just outside the frame of that picture to get that perfect shot).  We all like to see the pretty pictures, because, well, they are pretty, but it's also important to remember that it's not real life, at least a lot of the times.  I kind of am rambling on here, so I will end it, but I just thought it was worthwhile to share!

4.  DIY Playbook shared the easiest way to clean and reuse candle jars.  I turned to Pinterest for this a few years ago, and what I came across said to boil your jar to get the leftover wax out.  Well, from what I remember that didn't really work for me and it was kind of a pain, too.  However, this post gives me hope that I can start saving those jars, no problem.  Just stick them in the freezer, cut the wax out, and wash.  Easy, peasy!  Now I just need to get to burning some candles so I can test it out for myself!

5.  One of the things I struggle with, paper clutter from my receipts.  I like to input my spending into my budget (which you can see here), and often, I don't stay quite as on top of that as I would like, and end up with this big pile of receipts on my counter, or on a bar stool.  Lizzie from This Happy Life, shared her monthly spending envelop system, and I feel like it is the answer to my problems!  As you can read in her post, she keeps the receipts in her envelop, which also serves as a way to track your spending.  I am hoping to implement her system, in addition to how I already am tracking my budget, and see how it goes.  I have a feeling I am going to love it!

6.  And for an extra favorite today, I have the Girl Chat Link Up Announcement!  The girls and I are continuing our Girl Chat link up this year, and would love for you to join us!  First up - Reintroductions, next Thursday, January 18th.  We would love for you to join!

  4. #3 so important to remember! It can be easy to get sucked into comparing ourselves with others' perfect social media posts.

  6. I've never tried the freezer method for getting leftover wax out of candles, but I always pour boiling water into the jars and then the leftover wax floats to the top and you can just pop it out-- super easy! So interesting to read 3, it really seems like so much of social media has turned into more of one big advertisement-- or like in magazines how everyone is "airbrushed" and touched up vs how something might look in real life. So glad you guys are bringing back the Girl Chat linkup, if I get back into blogging I look forward to finally linking up!

  7. I missed Krista's IG story about that topic! I really do like seeing what real life is like for big bloggers because their lives look so fun and glamourous. Those chargers look great on your table scape!!

  8. Those chargers look really cute and that's a great idea to change up your table. So funny that there are so many different ways to stand to make yourself look a certain way. I guess I never really thought of that. Social media surely isn't what it used to be which is why I love insta stories so much because to me, that's a better insight into someone being real. looking forward to our link up! Have a great weekend! Sierra~Beautifully Candid

  9. Its such a good thing to have a reminder every now and then to take a step back and remember we shouldn't compare ourselves to what we see online!

  10. I loved Lizzie's post, too! So easy to do and absolutely brilliant! I'm going to implement a similar system for us since we're on a tighter budget these days.

  11. That receipt envelope system is a great idea. It's definitely better than my current shove-every-receipt-into-a-drawer system.

  13. #3 - you touched on this so perfectly. Social media is a highlight reel and its both a blessing and a curse. Comparison is the thief of joy. Looking forward to the link up!
