New York Stock Exchange
Last week, I had the chance to visit the New York Stock Exchange. Going up to the building, we had to stop at a security tent. Once we got past that, we made it into the building to the next security checkpoint. This one was similar to airport security, except you get to keep your shoes on, thankfully. We then waited for our sponsor. He walked us up to the main floor and inside the trading room. It was so neat! The building is just gorgeous inside, and then there are screens everywhere. Different TV shows are filmed there regularly, and the one we were right by was Squawk on the Street with Jim Cramer. It was amazing to me that they just go on with the show while people are just all over the place in the background. Our sponsor was super nice - he encouraged us to take a lot of pictures, which was awesome. We made it in time for the opening bell, which was neat. We found out that those who ring it in the morning are using IPOs, while those who ring the end bell normally are celebrating an anniversary. Or, if for some reason the original ringers back out or can't make it, they just go with whoever is visiting at the time! Our visit lasted a little less than an hour, but it was so neat to see the floor. They also have an area upstairs that has pictures throughout the years, but we didn't make it up there this time. Next time, hopefully! Before we headed back to the hotel, we found the bull and took some pictures. It was such a neat experience, one I hope to repeat if I make it back to New York for work!
