Must Be Something in the Water...

Is it just me, or are we in the middle of a baby boom?  I feel like people are announcing pregnancies left and right!  In fact, one of my co-workers just announced that baby number two is on the way.  It's all so very exciting!

One of my best friends told me that she was expecting shortly after the new year.  I really wanted to get a small gift for her and her husband.  I have wanted to do this before for my other friends, but it's always been one of those things where I have the best of intentions, but fall short on execution.  I was determined not to let my plans fall to the way side this time, though.  I wasn't certain what to get them, so I reached out to my sister-in-law, and then my mom.  My mom has a knack for thinking of cute gifts...I always ask her when I need help!  I came up with three things, one for the baby, one for the mom-to-be, and the dad-to-be.  I thought the gift turned out well, so I wanted to share, in case you too, are experiencing this surge in pregnancies/babies.

First, for the baby.  Since they didn't know the gender yet, I decided to just get some white onesies.  I thought those were a pretty safe present...useful, but not gender specific.  Then, for the mama, I decided to go with something I remembered my mom getting my sister-in-law, Burt's Bees Mama Bee Belly Butter.  I checked with my sister-in-law, to make sure that was indeed what she had gotten and that she did like it!  Finally, for the soon-to-be dad, I picked up Jimmy Fallon's book, Your Baby's First Word Will Be DADA.  My mom picked this up for one of my cousin's and reminded me of that when I asked her for suggestions.  I thought it was kind of funny, and who doesn't like Jimmy Fallon?!

On an unrelated note, make sure to check out Christina's blog today.  She is sharing a little bit about me in her sponsor spotlight!

  2. I agree with you...there are definitely pregnancy announcements seemingly on the daily. After the blizzard we had the other week, people were making jokes that there would be a lot of babies being born in October haha.
I think this is a super cute gift idea--love that you got something for each of them!

  3. I love that you got something for everyone! So often the dad eats forgotten in the gifts but he def deserves to be thought of as well! I totally agree that babies come in booms. For the longest time everyone I knew was pregnant and now it's been nothing for a while. I guess another boom is coming! Haha

  4. This is such a cute idea! One of my best friends from elementary school just announced she and her husband are expecting so I've been trying to think of something small to get them! They live far away though so I think I'll have to go the Amazon route or shipping will be so expensive!

  8. As a mom excepting number 2, this is such a perfect gift. Plain white onesies are like gold when you have a baby. I swear. Another idea for any future babes with babes, is the Mom's One Line a Day journal. I give it to anyone at a baby shower because it's adorable. its a journal with 365 pages, one for each day, and a space on each page to write one line each year. It's a great way to remember little things, and it's fun to compare year to year.
As for baby booms, always check the due date. For example, November is a REALLY popular baby month because 9 months prior was Valentine's day. (my girlfriend has 2 November babies, hahah!) Also, if there were any big storms about 3 months ago.. well, there ya go ;)

    1. I am so glad...I feel like they are great to wear under clothes, if not just have them in one at home! That journal idea is really neat - definitely going to remember that for next time!

This gift is all around perfect. You can never have too many white onesies, and I've heard great things about that Jimmy Fallon book! I just love him.

  17. Oh my gosh - the dada book! Definitely remembering that for the future - Derek is ahead of me on the baby train so when we do have kids I want a fun way to tell him and incorporating that book could be perfect!

  18. The same thing is happening in my circle of friends and coworkers. Babies, babies, everywhere!

  19. There are pregnancy announcements and babies being born all over the place! For me though, it's just with blogs I read. Unfortunately no one I'm close to is having a baby. Which is so rude, because I need to be able to get my baby fix somewhere without having my own yet!

  20. There's definitely something in the water! Yay for all of your friends' announcements, and how sweet is that gift. I had no idea Jimmy Fallon had a book - LOVE <3

  21. Agreed! There are babies all over the place right now! My closest friends are all pregnant (and one just had baby last month) which is crazy to me! One of them isn't finding out the gender of the baby so it's definitely going to be hard to shop for so I love the ideas that you picked out!
